Directive to complete Wasa projects before monsoon

LAHORE: A review meeting on departmental affairs monitoring was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Bilal Yaseen. 

Secretary Housing, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, briefed the meeting on the current status of ongoing projects and related measures.

The LDA DG also gave a briefing on the progress of ongoing development schemes and proposed projects for the upcoming fiscal year. 

On this occasion, Bilal Yaseen directed that the timely completion of ongoing projects in 15 districts under Wasa must be ensured before the monsoon season. He mentioned that he visited Sahiwal, Okara, Multan, and DG Khan, and emphasised that delays would not be tolerated. He stated that officers would ensure surveillance of field sites to monitor the quality of development work.

The minister also directed LDA to finalise working on timelines and proposed measures for ongoing mega projects in the city. He instructed that the quality and technical aspects of ongoing projects in the current fiscal year must be thoroughly evaluated. He directed that all projects should be completed before the deadline set by the CM and a detailed report on their effectiveness must be prepared.

Earlier, in line with the CM’s ‘Safe Punjab’ mission to enhance public safety, for the first time in Punjab, large-scale installation of fire hydrants were completed within a record timeframe.

On the instructions of Secretary Housing Punjab Noor Ul Amin Mengal, a total of 696 fire hydrants were installed under Punjab WASA within just three months.According to the spokesperson, the installation were completed simultaneously across 41 districts. Suitable locations for all fire hydrants were carefully selected to ensure rapid response in emergency situations.

Strengthening of dam embankments ordered

Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan directed the Irrigation Department and the district administration regarding strengthening of embankments of the dams and removing obstacles in the flow of water.

She said every district must be in constant contact with the Meteorological Department and the Irrigation Department.Commissioner Lahore issued these directions on Monday during her visit to several important points of the city such as Ravi, Shahdara, Kala Khatai Road and Railway Track Roads area regarding making advance arrangements for the upcoming monsoon season.

On this occasion, Chief Engineer Irrigation Lahore Region gave a briefing on the measures and planning being made to tackle monsoon and rainy season. In the briefing, a review of the capacity and preparations of structures from Shahdara Siphon to important points was presented.Commissioner said Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Nankana District Disaster Management Committees must be fully mobilised.
