NOWSHERA: Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Information and Broadcasting Ikhtiar Wali on Sunday accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of misusing public resources, alleging that government funds, including those allocated under the Ramazan package, were spent on political rallies.
Talking to reporters, Ikhtiar Wali said that despite spending billions of rupees from the public treasury, PTI failed to gather even 5,000 to 10,000 people at its Mardan rally. He remarked that if the party intended to launch a street movement, a press conference would have sufficed instead of spending massive public funds on gatherings.
He said that no pressure tactics or public rallies could secure the release of prisoners and claimed that PTI was internally divided, with its leadership split into factions. He added that Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja, and other leaders were taking differing positions, while Aleema Khan was not in favour of the Mardan rally.
Ikhtiar Wali also said that an important meeting regarding a peace agreement was expected to take place soon in Islamabad, where significant progress was anticipated.Criticising governance in the province, he alleged that mismanagement was at its peak, with bribery in transfers and postings, claiming that money was being taken for the appointment of deputy commissioners, commissioners and secretaries.
He also alleged that Rs13 billion under the Ramazan package was distributed among favourites while a new scandal involving Rs1.36 billion in medicine procurement had surfaced. He questioned why the government did not prioritise improvements in key sectors such as health and education. Referring to Sohail Afridi, he alleged that instead of standing against terrorism, he had supported militants.
On the issue of Bushra Bibi, Ikhtiar Wali said the government ensured her proper medical treatment and shifted her to a hospital, accusing PTI of politicising the matter. He added that providing medical care was the state’s responsibility, which it was fulfilling.
“The PTI is attempting to destabilise the country while the incumbent government, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, has strengthened Pakistan’s position on the global stage,” he claimed.
