ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs underlined their growing dominance on the national hockey scene with a composed and commanding performance to clinch their third successive title, defeating Punjab 3-1 in the National Under-18 Hockey final at the Bunda Ground before a sizable and enthusiastic crowd on Sunday.

With this emphatic triumph, Customs completed a remarkable clean sweep of national honours, having already lifted the National Senior Championship and the National Under-21 title earlier in the season. Under the astute guidance of former Olympian Danish Kaleem, the side has now etched its name in domestic hockey history by securing a rare hat-trick of titles across all major categories.

The final itself was a showcase of skill, structure and attacking flair, with Customs dictating proceedings for large stretches. Their disciplined approach and swift ball movement kept Punjab under constant pressure, reflecting the high standards of junior hockey on display.

Customs captain Adeel, who was later adjudged the Player of the Tournament, set the tone early with a clinical strike to hand his team the lead. Building on the momentum, Abdullah doubled the advantage before halftime, leaving Punjab with a steep task ahead.

Punjab attempted a spirited comeback after the break, pushing forward in search of goals, but their aggressive approach left gaps at the back. Customs capitalized ruthlessly, as Aisam put the result beyond doubt with a well-taken third goal, effectively sealing the contest.Punjab did manage a consolation goal in the dying minutes through Mohammad Zain, but it proved too little, too late as Customs comfortably secured a 3-1 victory to lift yet another trophy.

Earlier in the day, Army secured third place after edging past KPK in a tense penalty shootout. It was a disappointing end for KPK, who suffered heartbreak in both the semi-final and the third-place playoff, losing on shootouts on both occasions despite commendable performances throughout the tournament.

A jubilant Danish Kaleem praised his players for their consistency and commitment across all levels. “This is a proud moment for all of us. Winning all three major national titles is a testament to the hard work and dedication of these players,” he said.

“As head coach, I am grateful to the Customs management for their unwavering trust and support, especially the member of Customs. The encouragement from figures like Tauqeer Dar has also played a vital role in our success,” he added.Kaleem reaffirmed Customs’ commitment to nurturing talent and contributing to the revival of Pakistan hockey.
