MARDAN: The Awami National Party (ANP) has served a show-cause notice on party leader Himayatullah Mayar for his association with the Yousafzai Nariwala Jirga.
According to the notice, issued by Senator Aimal Wali Khan, Mayar, a former mayor and Member of the National Assembly, has been asked to submit his reply within three days, clarifying whether he is a member of any group other than the ANP and whether such affiliation is in accordance with the party constitution.
The notice further stated that the ANP is concerned about reports linking him with a group allegedly responsible for dividing Pakhtun tribes. This, it said, goes against the ideology and principles of Bacha Khan, who strongly opposed tribal divisions and advocated for unity, awareness, and development among Pakhtuns.
Reaffirming its ideological stance, the ANP emphasized that it has always opposed tribal divisions and warned that no deviation from its principles would be tolerated. It added that failure to provide a satisfactory response could result in strict disciplinary action against Mayar. It is worth noting that Himayatullah Mayar has previously served as an MNA and district nazim, and also held the position of mayor of Mardan.
He has also served as the district president of ANP. He is currently an office-bearer of the Yousafzai Nariwala Jirga.According to sources, the Yousafzai Nariwala Jirga had announced the celebration of Jashn-e-Pakhtunkhwa in Malakand on April 16. However, Mayar reportedly left for England instead.
Party sources claim that Himayatullah Mayar has formed his own group within the party, which has weakened the leadership’s grip in Mardan. They added that a majority of his supporters within the party have also joined the Yousafzai Nariwala Jirga.Meanwhile, a large number of people on social media criticized the ANP central president for the show-cause notice.
