ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Wednesday charged that the current load-shedding crisis is not just an administrative failure but a clear indication of the government’s overall incompetence, poor policy-making and complete indifference to public issues.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram regretted that today, power outages lasting not just hours but many hours have become a norm across the country. “If this situation continues, this crisis will not be limited to just electricity, but public anger may turn into a larger public reaction. The government will have to immediately correct its priorities; otherwise history will remember it as an example of the worst incompetence,” he warned.
He said, “People’s lives have been turned upside down in the intense heat, but the rulers are neither aware of the suffering nor do they seem looking for any serious strategy to solve it.”
The biggest failure of the government, added, is the lack of advance planning in the energy sector. He added the demand for electricity increases every year in the summer; this is nothing new, but neither production capacity has been increased, nor transmission system improved. No serious strategy seems in place to curb power theft and reduce the line losses.
Waqas lamented that what is even more regrettable is that the government’s priorities have been limited to obtaining loans and taking temporary measures instead of addressing public issues. He claimed that instead of finding a permanent solution to the energy crisis, temporary measures are only buying time, the consequences of which are being faced directly by people.
The industrial wheel, he pointed out, is slowing down, businesses are on the verge of collapse, workers are becoming unemployed, while students and patients are facing severe difficulties. “This is not just a power crisis, but has taken the form of a complete economic and social crisis,” he added.
The PTI spokesman contended that the government’s incompetence is also evident from the fact that the public is not being informed of any clear roadmap or timeline, as there is neither transparency and accountability, nor is there any seriousness effort at any level.
Separately, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Wednesday expressed grave concern and strongly condemned the continued hurdles being created in the process of obtaining signatures from ex-PM Imran Khan on critical legal documents, saying such actions were a serious assault on justice, due process and the rule of law.
In a statement issued by party’s central media department, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram asserted that the reported disappearance of the power of attorney and other vital legal documents inside Adiala Jail was not merely an administrative lapse but appeared to be a calculated attempt to obstruct and undermine the legal process.
“We demand an immediate, transparent, and impartial inquiry into this matter, along with strict action against those responsible,” he stressed.
The PTI spokesman maintained that such actions constituted a grave injustice, effectively depriving a political prisoner of his fundamental constitutional right to access justice and a fair trial. He contended that, given the limited time available to file an appeal before the Supreme Court, these delays are deeply troubling and only serve to intensify existing concerns and suspicions.
He made it clear that if this situation was not promptly rectified and the process of signing the legal documents was not completed without further delay, then it would raise serious questions about the credibility of state institutions.
“We also reiterate that any restriction on the fundamental rights of PTI Chairman Imran Khan is unacceptable and constitutes a clear violation of the principles of the rule of law,” he added.
The party spokesman affirmed that it would continue to raise its voice against this injustice at every level and would pursue all legal and constitutional avenues to bring this matter to its logical conclusion, come what may.
