GHALLANAI: The local political and social figures on Wednesday levelled allegations of irregularities and nepotism in the distribution of relief goods among the people affected by recent heavy rains in Mohmand tribal district.
Speaking at a press conference at the Mohmand Press Club, Malgari Wakeelan president Khanzada Khan advocate, Awami National Party district general secretary Gul Nawaz Khan, Haleemzai tehsil president Abdul Majeed along with Taj Muhammad, Shah Muhammad, Ayaz, Nadeem Khan, Murad Afghan and other leaders alleged that transparency was ignored in the distribution process with favouritism shown to selected individuals while genuine victims were completely overlooked.
They said that distributing relief goods without a comprehensive and impartial survey reflected administrative incompetence and amounted to injustice against the affected population. The speakers added that hundreds of poor families, whose mud-thatched houses, rooms and walls were destroyed by recent rains and strong winds, were still waiting for government assistance.
The activists criticised the district administration’s performance, saying that not only was there a lack of seriousness in relief efforts, but no effective system was adopted to identify the real victims.
They demanded the immediate formation of an impartial committee to conduct a transparent and comprehensive survey across the district, ensure the registration of affected families and guarantee fair distribution of relief goods.
