PESHAWAR: Provincial Quality Control Board (PQCB), Health Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday ordered the registration of 17 First Information Reports (FIRs) against people involved in the sale and distribution of spurious drugs.
The directives were issued at the 352nd and 353rd meetings of the board held under the chairmanship of Secretary Health, Shahid Ullah Khan (chairman).
Mansoor Arshad (Vice Chairman PQCB), Dr. Abbas Khan (Director General, Drug Control & Pharmacy Services), Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim (Secretary Board), Chairman Department of Pharmacy, Professor of Pharmacology KMC, Hakim Abdul Waheed, Director General Health Services, and the Secretary Pharmacy Council were there.
During the meetings, a total of 123 cases from various districts including Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Battagram, Swabi, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Nowshera were thoroughly reviewed and decided.
Drug Inspectors presented cases before the Board seeking permission under relevant provisions of the Drug Act. The board ordered the registration of 17 FIRs against individuals involved in the sale and distribution of spurious drugs.
As many as 60 cases were referred to the Drug Court for judicial proceedings. In addition, 26 drug samples were sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, for re-testing under Section 22(5) of the Drug Act, 1976. Warnings were issued in 17 cases, while one case was remanded for re-inspection.
