ISLAMABAD: Imaan Zainab Mazari has approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision in which only notices were issued on her request for suspension of sentence in the controversial tweet case.

In her petition, filed on Monday, she challenged the IHC order issued on February 19, 2026. She argued that although the high court admitted her main appeal for hearing, it did not suspend her sentence, which amounts to an illegal use of discretionary powers.

The petitioner further stated that the trial court’s decision was made in bad faith, it was unlawful, and exceeded jurisdiction. It also argued that recording evidence in the absence of the accused was a serious violation of the law.

The trial court, under various provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Ordinance 2022, had sentenced Imaan Zainab Mazari and her husband Hadi Chatha to a total of 17 years each in prison, along with a fine of 36 million rupees. Both are currently imprisoned in Central Jail Rawalpindi (Adiala Jail).
