ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday sought video recordings of witness statements from the trial court and prosecution in the murder case of Sanam Umrani.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and comprising Justice Irfan Saadat Khan heard the case. The court restrained the trial court from issuing a final verdict, observing that if it is proven that statements were recorded incorrectly, action would be taken against the judge.
The only surviving complainant from the family, Nayab Umrani, told the court that four members of her family were killed while none from the opposing side died. She alleged that testimonies were deliberately recorded incorrectly in the trial court regarding the murder of her sister, with dates and facts misstated. She requested the court to order that statements be recorded in accordance with the video recordings.
Accepting the request, the court directed the trial court and prosecution to submit the video recordings of witness statements and adjourned the hearing for two weeks. The Sanam Umrani murder case is currently pending before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Tasawuri Ali in Hyderabad.
