LAHORE:The Punjab government has prepared a plan to expand surveillance by installing CCTV cameras at union council level across the province.
Sources said around 7,000 cameras will be installed under the Safe City project at an estimated cost of Rs5 billion.
A summary has been sent to the chief minister for approval. Officials said the system aims to strengthen monitoring at neighbourhood level and help prevent crime through modern technology.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Abdul Karim met police employees and their families at the Central Police Office and heard their complaints. He issued directions for relief in several welfare cases, including job, transfer and promotion requests, and instructed officers concerned to ensure prompt action.
Shalimar police recovered a missing child within hours and reunited him with his parents.Six-year-old Rustam Khan had gone missing after leaving a relative’s house. Police traced him using CCTV footage and a search operation led by the SHO. The parents thanked police for the swift action.
