PESHAWAR: An emergency meeting of the executive body of central National Labour Federation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was held under the chairmanship of Shamsur Rehman Swati, where participants expressed profound grief over the tragic incident at a stone quarry in Rustam area of Mardan district.
The participants expressed sorrow over the loss of the lives of nine labourers, while two were critically injured and one remained missing in the incident.They offered condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of the injured and safe recovery of the missing worker.
Addressing the meeting, Swati expressed serious concern over the performance of provincial authorities, the labour and the mines and minerals departments. He alleged that workers were not provided with necessary safety measures as required under health and safety regulations, and potential risks such as severe weather and landslides were ignored.
He demanded an immediate financial package for affected families, full medical treatment for the injured and urgent measures to locate the missing worker, along with strict disciplinary action against those responsible.
