The Sindh Police Department on Saturday decided to establish an “Aerial Surveillance Division” for effective and continuous surveillance of cities, highways, traffic, railway tracks, highways and unpaved areas.
Sindh IGP Javed Alam Odho sought comprehensive and actionable recommendations from senior officers regarding the establishment of the department. A committee comprising senior officers should be formed to determine the structure, SOP, operational procedures and organizational structure of the proposed aerial surveillance department.
Officials said a detailed briefing by the IT DIG on the existing means of aerial surveillance, modern equipment, their features, objectives, training requirements, acquisition methods and expected benefits. An important meeting on the establishment of the Aerial Surveillance Department chaired by IGP Javed Alam Odho was held at the Central Police Office (CPO) Karachi.
The meeting was attended by DIGs of Headquarters, Establishment, IT, T&T, DG Safe Citizens Authority, AIGs in person, while DIG Sukkur, Larkana and concerned SSPs participated through video link.
The IT DIG gave a detailed briefing to the participants of the meeting on the existing aerial surveillance system, modern technology, use of drones and other equipment, training requirements and its practical benefits. The officers expressed their experiences, suggestions and possible challenges regarding aerial surveillance.
IGP Odho said that aerial and digital surveillance is an indispensable requirement and future of modern policing. Policing and surveillance will not only become easier but also more effective and reliable through modern technology and aerial surveillance systems.
Moreover, continuous aerial surveillance in urban areas, major highways, railway tracks, highways and slum areas will play a key role in timely prevention of crimes, identification of suspicious activities and ensuring immediate action.
