Islamabad : The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday issued a weather advisory forecasting rain and thunderstorms across several northern and central regions, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, from April 12 to 17.

According to the NDMA, intermittent rainfall is expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, accompanied by thunderstorms, dust storms and strong winds.

Isolated areas may also experience hailstorms.

Rainfall is likely in Islamabad and multiple cities across Punjab, including Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Mianwali and Mandi Bahauddin. In contrast, Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and dry, with a slight to moderate rise in daytime temperatures. The NDMA also said that snowfall was also expected in upper and mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa next week.

Rain is also forecast in Gilgit-Baltistan's Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Astore, Diamer and Ghizer areas and Azad Jammu and Kashmir's Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli and Neelum Valley.

The NDMA warned that strong winds, lightning and hailstorms could damage vulnerable structures, trees and power lines. Rainfall could make roads slippery and disrupt traffic, while snowfall in mountainous areas could affect travel. It cautioned that continuous rainfall in hilly terrain could increase the risk of landslides, advising people to avoid unnecessary travel, drive cautiously and follow official advisories, especially during storms.
