Abubakar, Russia’s Rubtsova clinch ITF Junior titles

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Abubakar Talha and Russia’s Varvara Rubtsova emerged as the boys and girls singles champions, respectively, as the ITF Pakistan 3rd Zainab Ali Naqvi Memorial World Juniors Tennis Championship 2026 (Leg-1) concluded at the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Tennis Complex here on Saturday.

In a gripping Boys’ singles final, Abubakar Talha overcame compatriot Mikaeel Ali Baig in a hard-fought three-set encounter, winning 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5 to secure the title and earn valuable ITF ranking points. The match kept spectators on the edge of their seats as both players displayed exceptional skill and determination.

The Girls’ singles final, however, saw a dominant performance from Russia’s Varvara Rubtsova, who outclassed China’s Yijia Wang in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, to claim the championship.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tennis Federation announced that the Subh-e-Nau ITF Pakistan Junior International Tennis Championship 2026 (Leg-II) will commence on April 13 at the same venue, continuing the momentum of international junior tennis in the country.
