The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), in a joint operation with a federal civilian intelligence agency, has arrested a suspected target killer affiliated with a banned outfit during a raid on University Road.

According to a spokesperson for the CTD, the arrested man was identified as Farhan Khan, son of Ismail, who was allegedly associated with the banned organisation Zainabiyoun Brigade. The group had previously been involved in dozens of sectarian and religiously motivated terrorist activities. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in the targeted killing of Mufti Qaiser Farooq, the prayer leader of Abu Bakr Masjid. The incident took place on 12th Rabiul Awwal in Federal B Area Block 20, where the victim was shot dead to incite sectarian unrest in the city.

A minor boy, Umar, son of Shakir, was also injured in the firing. Officials said the suspect carried out the attack along with an accomplice on the directives of the organisation. The weapon used in the crime, a 9mm pistol, was also recovered from the suspect’s possession. Police confirmed that a case regarding the murder of Farooq had already been registered at the Samanabad Police Station. Additionally, a separate case under the Sindh Arms Act has been registered against the arrested suspect by the CTD.
