Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has said the Sindh government has reached an important milestone in providing fuel subsidies to support farmers amid current economic conditions.

In a statement issued to the media on Thursday, he said fuel subsidies had been provided to 331,000 farmers across the province through Hari Card. A total of Rs3 billion was disbursed as the fuel subsidy in a transparent manner, he said, adding that the subsidy covered 1.94 million acres of agricultural land.

Memon said the purpose of the fuel subsidy was to reduce farmers’ production cost and help increase their income. All funds were transferred directly to farmers based on verified data, ensuring complete transparency, he maintained.

The information minister said the positive results of the Sindh government’s farmer-friendly policies were now becoming evident. Last year, the government’s support in the form of fertiliser through the Hari Card led to an increase in wheat production, he stated.

He said wheat production rose from 3.5 million tonnes to 4.8 million tonnes as a result of the government assistance. The Sindh government would continue to take steps to boost agricultural production, promote economic development and ensure the prosperity of farmers, Memon asserted.
