Pakistan Customs on Thursday foiled an attempt to smuggle gold jewellery, gold bars, and foreign currency worth approximately Rs190 million at the arrivals terminal of Jinnah International Airport.

According to customs officials, a suspicious passenger holding a Pakistani passport was intercepted after arriving from Abu Dhabi along with family members on an international flight. The passenger was directed to the red channel for a detailed examination.

During the scanning of luggage and hand-carry bags, officials detected concealed gold jewellery and foreign currency. Upon search, authorities recovered 281 tolas of 22-karat gold jewellery, two 24-karat gold bars weighing 10 tolas each, as well as $33,100 and 366,000 UAE dirhams.

Customs officials had registered a case and seized the recovered items under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969. Further investigation was underway.
