Pakistan has, to the best of my knowledge, over 30 major thermal power plants, providing a significant portion of the country’s total installed capacity. These plants are primarily powered by imported coal, domestic coal (Thar), natural gas, RLNG and furnace oil.

The government needs to concentrate on local thar coal to run thermal power plants effectively and efficiently and should avoid loadshedding. This should be followed by the closure of all CNG pumps in the country so that the saved gas can be used to power industrial units and enhance exports and domestic output.
