It is bad enough that the country has over 25 million out-of-school children, the second-highest out-of-school population in the world. Now, due to the conflict in the Middle East, the school cycle has been disrupted once again, with many educational institutions switching to online classes.

While schools are now starting to reopen and this trend is likely to strengthen with a ceasefire in place, the temporary closure highlights how, when crisis strikes, it is always the education sector that gets disrupted first. Is education somehow less important than other sectors?
