LAHORE: The Pakistan International Business Forum (PIBF) on Thursday welcomed the recent Iran-United States dialogue facilitated through Pakistan’s mediation, calling it a timely step towards de-escalation and regional stability.

In a statement, PIBF President Dr Mushtaq Mangat said Pakistan has demonstrated its diplomatic relevance by helping bridge communication between key global stakeholders. He added that the initiative could support regional peace and enhance the country’s standing internationally.

Secretary General Muhammad Ejaz Tanveer said the dialogue should lead to tangible outcomes, particularly the easing and eventual lifting of economic sanctions on Iran, which he said have long constrained regional economic integration and energy cooperation.

Chief Organiser Muaz Qazi highlighted the need for preparedness in the event of any relaxation in sanctions, stressing the importance of advancing the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project amid the country’s growing energy needs.

The forum said access to affordable gas through the pipeline could help ease energy shortages, support industrial activity and contribute to broader economic stability. It added that a reliable energy supply remains critical for sustainable growth and export competitiveness.

The PIBF also called for policy clarity and institutional readiness to ensure timely execution of the project if external constraints are eased, warning that further delays could result in missed economic opportunities. The forum reiterated that diplomatic progress should be matched by prompt economic action to maximise potential regional gains.
