Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi emir Monem Zafar has strongly condemned the postponement of matriculation examinations and the failure to issue admit cards to thousands of candidates, holding the matric board responsible for the crisis which he has linked to “severe mismanagement, incompetence, and poor performance”.
He said the PPP-led provincial government had “turned education into a mockery and a game,” adding that Karachi’s students were suffering because of the negligence and administrative failures of the Sindh government and the matric board.
Zafar said the futures of thousands of male and female students remain at risk, while the continuing delay in the issuance of admit cards has caused intense mental and physical distress for students and their parents.
He said large crowds of students had gathered outside the matric board office in an attempt to obtain their admit cards. Candidates arriving from across the city were left worried and frustrated, while the board administration had failed to issue the documents on time. He added that numerous complaints had also surfaced regarding the establishment and management of examination centres.
He further said that four controllers of examinations had been changed within a single year, highlighting the scale of the administrative crisis. “The provincial education board department and other concerned officials are shifting responsibility onto one another, but no serious effort is being made to resolve the chaos,” he said.
Criticising the PPP’s 18-year rule in Sindh, Zafar alleged that the party had destroyed institutions through politically motivated appointments and interference in educational boards. He said serious irregularities had repeatedly emerged in examination results, with students often being wrongly declared failed. Although inquiry committees were formed, he said no meaningful action had been taken against those responsible, who instead continued to receive protection. “This amounts to the educational destruction of Karachi’s students,” he said.
