ISLAMABAD: Bangladesh government has declared 481 individuals as fake freedom fighters after nationwide verification and cancelled their gazette notifications issued by the Hasina Wajid government.
The campaign for verification was conducted from August 2024 to March 2026. The announcement to this effect was made by Minister Ahmed Aazam Khan in Dhaka during Parliament session on Sunday.
The information was disclosed during the first session of the 13th National Parliament. The minister was responding to a notice under Rule 71 submitted by Sylhet-3 MP Mohammed Abdul Malique. In his notice, Malique said many fake “freedom fighters” had been added to official lists during the previous “fascist” government (of Awami League’s Sheikh Hasina).
