LONDON/BARCELONA: Hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers for a prominent businessman Muhammad Nauman Qaiser, who was allegedly killed in a police encounter in “Punjab”, according to the family sources.
Nauman Qaiser was killed on March 11 reportedly in Sukkar’s Aboro area in Sindh province, while the family alleges he was killed in Punjab.
According to the family, Qaiser had been facing what they described as politically motivated cases in Pakistan despite being acquitted in Spain, including a case under Section 109. He returned to Pakistan on protective bail to contest a murder case but was arrested and pressured to withdraw his legal protection.
After eight months, he secured bail, only to be re-arrested from court premises in a case under Article 440, in which he was later acquitted. He was then implicated in another case under Section 506, prompting the Lahore High Court to intervene, barring police from arresting him or registering further cases and seeking records from the Crime Control Department (CCD).
Authorities told the court that Qaiser was not wanted in any case, leading to his release. On February 1, 2026, he was detained again, and fresh cases — including two murder charges and a theft case — surfaced. The court questioned the sudden emergence of these cases and ordered his protection.
Despite court directives, Qaiser was killed on February 11 in what his family alleges was a staged encounter.
CCD stated that it had earlier investigated Qaiser in connection with the murder of his brother-in-law, a crime it said had been planned from Dubai, and had examined his alleged role in the matter. However, CCD added that Qaiser had obtained bail in that case and was no longer wanted by the department. It also said that another separate case existed against him with Punjab Police.
