Rawalpindi: In a tragic incident in Waris Khan, a woman identified as Nazia Masarrat was shot dead following a brief altercation over a right-of-way.

The victim was the wife of Mufti Masarrat Iqbal Abbasi, a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) at the tehsil level for the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation. At the time of the shooting, she was traveling toward the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology accompanied by her brother-in-law and other family members to visit her ailing mother-in-law.

The confrontation occurred near the Glass Factory when the family requested an armed man to give way as they were passing.

According to police reports, the suspect responded by opening fire, inflicting critical injuries on Nazia Masarrat that ultimately proved fatal. Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene, and the victim's body was shifted to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem examination. Law enforcement agencies have since launched a search operation to locate and arrest the perpetrator.

Owner’s son arrested for stealing gold

RAWALPINDI: Police have solved a house theft case, revealing that the suspect was the homeowner’s own son.

According to police, the accused had stolen 10 tolas of gold jewelry worth more than Rs4.8 million.

He was living separately from the family and allegedly entered the house during their absence to carry out the theft.

During the investigation, Waris Khan police expanded the scope of inquiry and took the suspect into custody.

He later confessed to the crime. On his disclosure and identification, the stolen gold jewelry was successfully recovered.

SP (Rawal) Saad Arshad commended police team performance and said the accused will be presented in the court with solid evidence for further legal proceedings. -- APP
