ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday restored the interim bail of Dr. Fazila Abbasi against surety bonds of Rs100,000 in a multi-billion-rupee money laundering case, thereby restraining the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from arresting her.
The court also directed the petitioner to approach the trial court for further proceedings in accordance with the law. Justice Muhammad Azam Khan heard her pre-arrest bail application as she appeared before the court along with her counsel, Naeem Bukhari.
During the hearing, Advocate Naeem Bukhari informed the court that Dr. Fazila Abbasi had appeared before the relevant forum on three occasions. However, he explained that she could only attend once in person and had subsequently submitted a medical certificate seeking exemption from appearance for three days, after which her interim bail was withdrawn due to non-compliance.
After hearing the arguments, the court accepted her plea and restored the interim bail in exchange for surety bonds of Rs100,000, while again directing her to approach the trial court to pursue the matter further.
Earlier, the Special Judge Central Islamabad had canceled her bail due to her non-appearance, prompting her to challenge the decision before the Islamabad High Court.
The Federal Investigation Agency has registered a case against Fazila Abbasi under the provisions of Money Laundering Act, and the matter is currently under legal proceedings.
