ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, appreciated Pakistan’s role in the evolving Israel-Iran situation and emphasised that in light of changing regional dynamics, it is essential to take parliament into confidence while making key decisions.
The speaker met the JUIF leader at his residence here on Tuesday. During the meeting, both leaders discussed the regional situation as well as matters of mutual interest. The two leaders underscored the need to further strengthen the legislative process and enhance the effective role of parliament, according to a statement issued by the National Assembly Secretariat. They also deliberated on promoting national unity, democratic stability and political harmony in the country.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted that consultation and mutual cooperation among the political leadership are vital to addressing the challenges faced by the country. He added that strengthening coordination among political parties is in the national interest. He also noted that Pakistan is playing an active role in the evolving situation in the Middle East.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman appreciated the role of speaker as the custodian of the House and acknowledged the importance of parliament in the current regional context. He remarked that parliament’s role is of key significance in addressing ongoing challenges and ensuring a collective national response.
