Islamabad:The Islamabad Police have successfully apprehended a notorious inter-provincial criminal syndicate, known as the Mansoor Khan gang, responsible for the high-profile murder of businessman Aamir Awan during a recent robbery.
The breakthrough came following a series of raids across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the arrest of the gang members in Charsadda. The announcement was made during a joint press conference held by State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Inspector General of Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
The minister expressed deep regret over the tragic incident that occurred two nights ago. He noted that under the direction of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, significant steps have been taken to address resource shortages and modernize the force, including the full activation of Safe City cameras and the integration of AI for traffic and security management.
Rizvi detailed the extensive investigative process, describing the case as a critical test for the Police. He said that 17 specialized teams were formed to track the culprits, conducting geo-fencing at six different locations and analysing 137 call records alongside the forensic review of feeds from 257 cameras.
A dedicated control room was established to coordinate 31 raids across Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Charsadda, and Mardan. The investigation uncovered that the gang was a highly organised inter-provincial group comprising both local and Afghan nationals.
The gang members frequently utilised bulletproof jackets and heavy weaponry, including Kalashnikovs, to carry out robberies across KPK, Punjab, and Islamabad, two Afghan nationals are also members of the gang.
