Recently, near my home, an incident occurred in which more than Rs1.5 million were stolen from a neighbour’s house. As responsible citizens, we went to the concerned police station to lodge an NC (non-cognisable report). Unfortunately, the police officials refused to register our complaint unless we paid them money. This act is not only illegal but also highly unjust, especially for poor people. Filing a complaint is our legal right, yet it is being denied without bribery.
When law-enforcement agencies fail to provide justice, people feel helpless and lose trust in the system. Such behaviour can create frustration among citizens and may lead to serious social consequences. I strongly urge the concerned authorities to take strict action against such practices, ensure accountability within police stations and introduce a transparent digital complaint filing system so that citizens can register their complaints without fear or corruption.
