The Sindh Rangers and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested a most-wanted terrorist during a joint intelligence-based operation in Karachi, officials said on Sunday.
According to a spokesperson for the Rangers, the suspect, identified as Asim, son of Asghar Ali Kalmati Baloch, was apprehended from Mano Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 12. He was allegedly affiliated with the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
The spokesperson said weapons, ammunition and explosive material were seized from the suspect’s possession. During initial interrogation, the accused revealed that he had joined the militant group in 2023 on the instructions of slain commander Tariq, alias Sufi, and Salman Kalmati Baloch.
He had earlier moved from Karachi to Panwan, Jewani, in Balochistan in 2016 and became involved in terror logistics, including distribution of weapons, ammunition, and supplies.
Officials stated that after the killing of Tariq in 2025, the suspect went into hiding in the Rymdan area of Iran. He, along with his associate Salman Baloch, had allegedly vowed to avenge the killing of their commander.
The suspect also disclosed that he was being sent for militant training to the Majeed Brigade by a commander identified as Rehan Baloch and was planning to travel to a training camp after Eid.
The spokesperson for the paramilitary force said the suspect was active on social media platforms, where he allegedly incited youth against state institutions and security forces. The arrested man was handed over to the CTD for the initiation of legal proceedings, and raids were under way to apprehend his accomplices. The Rangers have urged the public to report suspicious activities through helpline 1101 or via WhatsApp assuring that the informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
