LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators’ rising star Shamyl Hossain made history in the Pakistan Super League 2026, becoming the first Pakistan batter to score successive fifties in his first two PSL matches.

His composed knock of 54 against Hyderabad Kingsmen not only anchored Quetta’s innings but also earned him the Player of the Match award in their 40-run victory at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Shamyl admitted that the record was not on his mind. “It does feel good, did not think of it, trying to play the ball on its merit and to do well for the team. We cannot pre-plan,” he said, emphasizing his focus on fundamentals rather than chasing milestones.

Shamyl highlighted the importance of his partnership with fellow young batter Hassan Nawaz, which yielded 89 runs for the third wicket and turned the tide in Quetta’s favor. “When we lost wickets, we (Hassan Nawaz and me) were talking about lengthening our innings and picking our bowlers. We needed Hassan there – he is such a great batter. We have played a lot of cricket together in Islamabad, enjoyed being out there,” he explained.

The innings showcased Shamyl’s maturity beyond his years, combining patience with calculated aggression. His ability to rotate strike and punish loose deliveries provided Quetta with stability after early setbacks. With back-to-back fifties in his debut PSL season, Shamyl has quickly become one of the most exciting prospects in Pakistan cricket.
