PARACHINAR: Two persons were killed and one injured in three landmine explosions in the Nasti Kot area in upper part of Kurram tribal district.
According to police and hospital sources, three landmine explosions occurred on unpaved routes in the Nasti Kot area. Two persons were killed and one sustained injury in the blasts.
Hospital sources said that in the first blast, a man identified as Syed Guloon Shah was injured.
In the second explosion, Iqbal Hussain was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds before reaching hospital. Similarly, in the third blast, a man named Akbar Ali was killed.
Local political and social figures and elders expressed grief over the landmine explosions.
They said that the area had been facing unrest for the past two years and that these incidents had created a new challenge for residents. They termed the incidents unfortunate and urged the authorities to take immediate steps for clearing landmines in the area.
They also expressed concern over the closure of Parachinar-Peshawar main highway despite repeated peace agreements, saying that it was causing severe difficulties for the district’s population. They said that residents were forced to travel via remote and difficult unfrequented routes to reach Parachinar. They demanded urgent measures to ensure the safety of lives and property and called for the reopening of the main highway at the earliest.
