The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Immigration Wing on Saturday offloaded two passengers at the Jinnah International Airport after they were found to be attempting to travel to North Cyprus using fake academic credentials.

According to an FIA spokesperson, Mehran Anjum and Jahanzeb Toor, residents of Gujranwala, were stopped during the immigration process while attempting to board a flight to North Cyprus.

The suspects had presented matriculation, intermediate and BBA certificates that bore the attestation stamps from the Inter-Boards Coordination Commission, the Higher Education Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, during scrutiny, the documents were found to be suspicious.

Both passengers failed to verify their educational records, and later admitted to never having pursued formal education. They also admitted that the fake documents had been arranged through an agent named Ayesha Rehman for Rs2.5 million.

The FIA spokesperson said the case indicates an organised fraud involving forged documents. The suspects have been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Karachi for further legal action.
