Lahore Qalandars take on Karachi Kings

LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings face off in one of the blockbuster clashes of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday evening.

This is the sixth match of the tournament and both sides having opened their campaigns with victories will be eager to build momentum in this high-profile encounter.

Lahore began their title defense in style, defeating Hyderabad Kingsmen by 69 runs. Their batting unit fired collectively, posting 199 runs.

Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 53 off 39 balls, striking ten boundaries. Haseebullah Khan added an unbeaten 40 off 28 balls, while Mohammad Naeem chipped in with 30. Sikandar Raza contributed 24 runs and also impressed with the ball, taking 2/27.

The bowling attack was equally effective, dismissing Hyderabad for 130. Haris Rauf (2/22), Ubaid Shah (2/27), and skipper Shaheen Afridi (1 wicket) ensured Lahore’s dominance. With their batting and bowling units firing, Qalandars look well-balanced heading into this clash.

Karachi Kings enjoyed David Warner’s leadership and Hasan Ali’s firepower with the ball. Karachi Kings also started strong, defeating Quetta Gladiators by 14 runs. Their batting lineup showed depth with Moeen Ali anchored the innings with 48* off 29 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes). Skipper David Warner smashed 35 off 22 balls at a strike rate of 159. And Saad Baig contributed 30 off 23 balls, while Salman Agha added 22.

Defending 181, Karachi’s bowlers held their nerve. Hasan Ali was the standout, claiming 4/27 in his four overs. Moeen Ali, Adam Zampa, and Salman Agha chipped in with wickets, while the rest provided support despite Mir Hamza’s expensive spell.

Karachi have dominated recent encounters, winning five consecutive matches against Lahore. However, Qalandars enter this game as defending champions with strong form and confidence. Out of the 19 matches played between them Karachi had won 13 as against six by Qalandars.

While scattered thunderstorms are predicted in the evening, with humidity around 72%. Dew could play a role, making chasing favorable.

Lahore Qalandars would be relying on Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Sikandar Raza, Shaheen Afridi. Karachi Kings’ David Warner, Moeen Ali, Hasan Ali, Saad Baig have shown glimpses of skill and match winning qualities.

Both sides are in good form, but Lahore Qalandars’ balanced squad and potent bowling attack give them a slight edge. Karachi Kings will rely heavily on Warner’s leadership and Hasan Ali’s breakthroughs to challenge the defending champions.
