Four robbers killed in shootouts as citizens fight back

At least four suspected robbers were killed and as many citizens injured in two incidents of gunfire involving citizens in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Orangi Town on Friday.

In the first incident, two suspects were killed in an exchange of fire with a citizen on Millennium Bridge in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, within the limits of the Sharea Faisal police station.

According to police, three motorcycle-riding suspects had robbed a man, identified as Abdul Ghaffar, near Rashid Minhas Road’s Lal Flats while he was purchasing fruit. After the suspects fled, the victim gave a chase.

When the suspects reached the Millennium Bridge, they opened fire on the pursuing citizen. The citizen, using his licensed pistol, returned fire, leading to a gun battle. Two suspects were critically injured and later died while being shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, while their accomplice managed to escape.

Police recovered multiple snatched mobile phones, cash, and two pistols from the deceased suspects. Their identities could not be immediately ascertained. Efforts are underway to identify them and arrest the fleeing accomplice.

In an incident in Orangi Town’s Sector 1, two suspected robbers were killed and four citizens injured during an exchange of fire between armed suspects and locals.

SSP West Tariq Ilahi Mastoi said the suspects were fleeing after looting citizens when nearby residents opened fire, resulting in a crossfire. During the incident, four shopkeepers and passersby sustained injuries due to the suspects’ firing.

The suspects were critically wounded in retaliatory fire and later died. Two accomplices managed to escape.

Police recovered pistols, ammunition, and spent bullet casings from the scene. The injured citizens were identified as Hassan (23), Kashan (32), Abdul Rehman (34), and Asif (20). SHO Khameso Khan said the deceased suspects were identified as Umar Khan, son of Alam Khan, and Shehbaz, son of Sher Bacha, adding that their criminal records were being verified. Further investigation is underway.
