MIRANSHAHR: Residents of North Waziristan are facing severe hardships as electricity supply across the district remains suspended for the fourth consecutive day following the collapse of a major transmission tower.
The 132 kVA transmission tower in the Mirali area of North Waziristan reportedly fell due to heavy recent rains, disrupting power supply across the district. Authorities said the tower had weakened over time and could not withstand the stormy weather.
Officials from Tribal Electric Supply Company added that theft of tower braces (L-Angles) by locals had further weakened the structure, contributing to its collapse. They noted that Rs 8.472 million had been released for welding and reinforcing the transmission towers to prevent theft, but little work had been carried out on the site.
Local residents expressed serious concerns over the lack of proper maintenance and demanded that the TESCO chairman order a transparent investigation into the incident. They also called for strict legal action against officials responsible for negligence.
The power outage has severely disrupted daily life in the district, affecting homes, businesses, and essential services. The residents warned that delays in restoring the transmission line could lead to further hardships in the coming days.
