A dismissed police officer allegedly involved in robberies has been arrested along with his other associates in the Bin Qasim area.
Police said the arrested dismissed cop, Muhammad Wasim, was posted in District Korangi police and targeted warehouses in Bin Qasim. His associates were identified as Ahmed Ali, Yasir Umar Farooq, Waheed, Muhammad Atta, Muhammad Waseem and Gul Yasin.
Officials said that on Thursday, they received information that some suspects were planning to rob a warehouse near Port Qasim. Responding to the information, police mobiles rushed to the spot and after an encounter, arrested the suspects, including Waseem.
Police seized 30 bore pistols, mobile phones and a Suzuki Alto car from the possession of the six suspects. Initial investigation revealed that the suspects used to regularly raid warehouses. They would take the warehouse watchman hostage and rob it. Waseem was dismissed from the police service a month ago, officials said and added that serious cases had already been registered against him at various police stations.
Suicide
A police officer died following a firing incident inside the Napier police station on Thursday. The deceased was identified as 48-year-old Head Constable Shafiq Kiyani. According to SHO Azam Rajpar, the officer committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple.
The body was taken to the Civil Hospital, Karachi, for medico-legal formalities. Police said the deceased was serving as a reader to the Kharadar investigation DSP and was a resident of Jinnahabad, Ghans Mandi, in the Lyari area.
He was married and had children.
Initial investigation suggested that Kiyani was under financial debt. However, further investigations are under way to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
