A meeting was chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Wednesday, which reviewed arrangements for the World Urdu Mushaira that will held at the Expo Centre on March 28.
Officials said it was decided to make special security arrangements on this occasion. The meeting was attended among others Additional Commissioner Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Additional Commissioner Asadullah Khoso, Deputy Commissioner East Nasrullah Abbasi, Assistant Commissioner Waqas Abbasi and senior officers of police, Rangers, TMAs, SSWMB, KWSC and chief organiser of Mushaira Mahmood Ahmed Khan.
Mahmood Khan briefed the meeting about the importance of the Mushaira, saying that prominent poets from Pakistan and abroad would attend, including Iftikhar Arif, Dr Pirzada Qasim, Anwar Shaoor, Abbas Tabish and Wasi Shah.
The commissioner said it is an important annual event of the city, it has projected Karachi’s positive image worldwide, and it should be continued. He assured full support from the administration for the event’s success.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) will start in Karachi on March 26, with strict adherence to the government’s national austerity policy. No spectators will be allowed in the stadium, but print and electronic media will be permitted for coverage.
This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi to review PSL arrangements. The meeting decided to provide foolproof security to the players and ensured presence of fire brigade, and health units any un expected for emergencies.
DIG Security Dr Maqsood Ahmed briefed the meeting on security, while a traffic official outlined traffic and parking arrangements. Deputy Commissioner East Nasrullah Abbasi briefed the meeting about the arrangements, saying that all arrangements are being made in coordination with National Stadium administration and other departments.
