LAHORE: Former champions Quetta Gladiators head into the Pakistan Super League Season 11 aiming to rediscover their lost consistency and return to playoff contention. With Saud Shakeel taking over the captaincy, the Gladiators are entering a new phase focused on stability, youth development, and smarter team combinations.

Quetta Gladiators have undergone a noticeable transition, blending experienced international players with a core of emerging domestic talent. The leadership of Saud Shakeel signals a shift towards a more composed and technically sound approach, particularly in batting. The presence of explosive South African batter Rilee Rossouw adds firepower to the top order, while overseas recruits like Tom Curran and Alzarri Joseph strengthen both batting depth and bowling options.

Young talents such as Hasan Nawaz, Shamyl Hussain, and Khawaja Mohammad Nafay highlight the franchise’s renewed focus on grooming future stars. Meanwhile, the inclusion of wicketkeepers like Ben McDermott and Sam Harper provides flexibility in team selection.

Saud Shakeel’s elevation to captaincy is a significant move. Known for his calm temperament and consistency, he will be expected to anchor the batting line-up while also guiding a relatively inexperienced squad.

Rilee Rossouw remains the most dangerous batter in the line-up, capable of changing games single-handedly. However, his inconsistency in recent PSL seasons has been a concern. If he finds form, Quetta’s batting will gain much-needed momentum.

In the all-round department, Tom Curran brings valuable experience in T20 leagues around the world. His ability to contribute in both batting and bowling makes him a key player, particularly in pressure situations. Brett Hampton and Jahandad Khan offer additional all-round options, though their impact at this level remains to be seen.

The bowling attack has a mix of pace and spin. Alzarri Joseph’s raw pace and aggression make him a strike bowler, while Abrar Ahmed provides a potent spin option capable of troubling even the best batters. Wasim Akram Jnr adds depth to the pace unit, though consistency will be key.

Young bowlers like Usman Tariq and Saqib Khan have potential but lack experience, which could be a challenge in high-pressure encounters.

Quetta Gladiators were once among the most consistent teams in the PSL, winning the title in 2019 and regularly reaching the playoffs. However, their performances have declined sharply in recent seasons.
