Islamabad : The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration have made special arrangements to deal with any emergency situation in view of forecasts of rain, strong winds, hailstorms and thunderstorms in the federal capital from March 24 to 30.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain accompanied by wind and hailstorms is expected in Islamabad on March 25 and 26, while another spell of rain is likely from March 28 to 30.
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa has directed the CDA, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to ensure comprehensive arrangements to handle any emergency arising from the weather conditions.
Under the directions, joint teams of the CDA, MCI and district administration will remain deployed in the field during the rainy spell to assist residents, while emergency and rescue teams have been placed on high alert.
Randhawa directed the authorities to keep major roads, drains, water channels and low-lying areas under strict monitoring.
He also instructed the relevant staff to remain in the field with machinery and asked officers of the CDA and ICT administration to ensure their presence on the ground.
The CDA said special drainage arrangements had been made at underpasses and other vulnerable points to ensure smooth traffic flow on major roads during the rains.
The administration advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather and take precautionary measures.
It said residents could contact the CDA helpline in case of any emergency or complaint, adding that timely redress would be ensured.
Randhawa said the measures were aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining civic facilities in the capital.
