ALPURI: Intermittent rains and snowfall in upper areas continued for a third consecutive day in Shangla, significantly intensifying the cold and disrupting routine life across the district.
It was learnt that torrential rains, accompanied by hailstorms in some and light snowfall over mountainous regions, have led to a sharp drop in temperature. Chilly winds sweeping through the valley have further aggravated the cold weather conditions, affecting residents’ daily activities.
Power outages have emerged as a major issue, with large parts of the district plunged into darkness soon after the rains began. The weather has also disrupted local hydropower generation, resulting in widespread suspensions.
Residents in multiple areas have reported prolonged power cuts, while supply from Pesco has also been inconsistent due to repeated tripping, causing additional difficulties.Meanwhile, rainfall-triggered landslides have affected traffic flow on the Karakoram Highway and other places in the district. In several locations, debris has fallen onto roads, creating hurdles for commuters and slowing vehicular movement.
The ongoing rain and snowfall caused a noticeable decline in temperatures, further intensifying the cold and posing challenges for the local population.The Meteorological Department stated that the spell of rain and cold weather, which began earlier this week, was expected to continue intermittently until next week.
