Rain spell to continue, says PMD

LAHORE:Moderate to light rain was witnessed in the provincial capital here on Wednesday while Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The average AQI of the city was 84, which fell in the category of moderate while the PM2.5 concentration was 5.3 times the World Health Organisation annual PM2.5 guideline value.Rainfall was witnessed at Garhi Shahu, Canal Road, Davis Road, Johar Town, Garden Town, Ichhra, Mughalpura and other areas.

It caused serious discomfort in the low-lying areas while several city roads turned into mini pools, which also affected the flow of traffic.It should be noted that the NDMA had already predicted thunderstorms, strong winds and rain in various parts of the country until March 25.

According to the NDMA, a new wave of westerly winds has affected the northern and western regions of the country. Rain and wind were likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Lahore and surrounding areas in upper and central Punjab.

On the other hand, thundershowers and hailstorms were also predicted at some places in upper Punjab. Rains were predicted at various places in Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan and DG Khan in southern Punjab.

Similarly, intermittent strong winds and thundershowers were predicted in most districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Thunderstorms were predicted in various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, while snowfall was predicted in the hilly areas.
