ISLAMABAD: Arch-rivals Pakistan and India are set to clash in a crucial Pool match of the Hockey World Cup at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, Holland, on August 19, in what promises to be one of the most eagerly awaited encounters of the tournament.

The high-stakes fixture will be the final group-stage match for both teams and could well determine their progression to the knockout rounds. Given the intensity of the rivalry and the significance of the occasion, the match is expected to attract massive global attention.

Pakistan will begin their campaign against England on August 15, followed by their second Pool outing against Wales on August 17. The green-shirts will then take on India in their last group match, a contest that could prove decisive depending on earlier results.

Hockey analysts believe Pakistan’s opening match against England will be critical, as a strong start is essential in a tightly contested group. Dropping points early could leave little margin for error heading into the final match against India.

The World Cup, featuring 16 top teams from around the world, is regarded as the pinnacle of international field hockey. The competition will showcase traditional giants alongside emerging nations, all vying for the coveted title.

The tournament will kick off with a match between Australia and Japan, setting the stage for an action-packed event at one of Europe’s premier hockey venues. Pakistan, making a return to the World Cup after a prolonged absence, will be keen to re-establish its credentials on the global stage. While all matches carry importance, the clash against India remains the centerpiece of their campaign, combining sporting significance with historic rivalry.
