QUETTA: The Gwadar district administration has suspended the Rahdari document (border passes) for travel to Iran.
According to a statement released by the office of the assistant commissioner, the issuance of Rahdaris has been suspended until further notice.
Officials explained that under this system, the border area residents were allowed to travel between Pakistan and Iran without visas or passports. This facility was exclusively available to the people living in border regions of both countries.
Local residents are worried about the suspension of the system, as it will inconvenience families on both sides of the border.
It is worth noting that this system had long served as an important and convenient travel facility for the local population.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday termed the large-scale repatriation of Pakistani citizens from Iran as the result of a well-organized and coordinated effort by the government.
In a statement shared on the social networking site X, he said that a total of 5,615 Pakistani citizens had safely returned home from Iran via the districts of Gwadar and Chagai since February 28 until last night. In addition, 431 other foreign nationals, including 2,117 Iranian drivers, have also entered Pakistan from Iran during the same period.
The chief minister praised the timely and effective performance of the district administrations of Gwadar and Chagai, noting that the arriving passengers were looked after in the best possible manner. He said they were provided with accommodation, food, and other essential facilities, while their safe and smooth transfer to their destinations was also ensured.
He said that the government remains fully mobilized to ensure the convenience, safety, and comfort of all passengers, adding that all concerned departments and agencies were performing their duties efficiently through strong mutual coordination.
