ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary General Salman Akram Raja on Tuesday said they stood against the aggression of Israel and America against Iran, and the entire Ummah was united.
He regretted that aggression was carried out by Israel and America while the entire Muslim Ummah was united. “We stand against this aggression. The Iranian nation has stood firm at this time; this is a beacon for all. When you are attacked, you have to stand for religion, which the Iranian nation did,” he emphasised.
Talking to media at the Adiala check-post in Rawalpindi, the PTI leader said his party was a Pakistan-friendly party and that every step would be taken thoughtfully in the given situation. He underlined that the integrity of Pakistan and the survival of Pakistan were most important for them. About the possibility of having a meeting with the party’s jailed founding chairman and patron-in-chief Imran Khan, he remarked, “we are here, our sisters are also here, let’s see what happens.”
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that not allowing a prisoner (Imran Khan) to talk to his sons and not allowing a female prisoner (his spouse Bushra Bibi) to meet him is inhumane treatment.
Talking to media near the Adiala Jail, he said that stopping meetings with their leader to this extent was a violation of rights and a criminal act. He said this was the third Ramazan of the PTI founder and today it had been 955 days that he was in jail.
Referring to multiple challenges, he made it clear that the country could not afford/tolerate division and hatred, adding that there was a need to understand the situation. “Stopping meetings of the family and party people with Imran Khan will not improve the political situation,” he emphasized.
Aleema Khan, the sister of Imran Khan, expressed grave concerns regarding her brother’s health and the conditions of his incarceration. Speaking on a day marked for solidarity with the former prime minister, she stated that PTI supporters gathered near the prison to observe Iftar together as a symbolic gesture to show Khan he has not been forgotten.
She raised alarms over a potential medical issue involving Imran Khan’s eye, suggesting that the jail authorities are deliberately preventing family visitations to conceal his actual condition. She claimed that the administration stopped meetings with Bushra Bibi’s family after a message regarding Khan’s eye health was relayed through his wife. She questioned why her brother was being kept in solitary confinement and why her own family had been denied access for over three and a half months, noting that her sister last met him on December 4. She argued that if his health were stable, there would be no reason to restrict these constitutional meetings.
Regarding medical examinations, she clarified that the PTI did not suggest the name of Dr Nadeem Qureshi. She explained that while the family had proposed their own specialists, including Dr Khurram, the government instead opted for a doctor from the Shifa International. She criticized the exclusion of their trusted specialists from the medical board, questioning the transparency of the process.
Addressing recent media reports, she dismissed rumours of a “deal” or recent meetings circulated by a private news channel. She suggested that such reports were scripted and lacked credibility, urging the media outlet to hold its sources accountable. She commented on judicial proceedings, noting that while high court judges appeared to be asking pertinent questions, the eventual orders seemed influenced by external factors rather than the merits of the case.
On the broader political and regional front, she expressed grief over recent military strikes involving Afghanistan, emphasizing that violence between Muslim nations should be avoided. She concluded by stating that 90 per cent of the Pakistani public stood behind the PTI founder and remained the primary force that would eventually ensure his release from prison.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan was allowed to meet Bushra Bibi at the Adiala Jail, according to prison sources. The meeting took place on Tuesday in the jail’s conference room and lasted for approximately 30 minutes. During the meeting, the couple inquired about each other’s well-being, the sources said.
Following the meeting, both Imran and Bushra were escorted back to their respective cells. However, the sources added that, as on previous occasions, family members were not permitted to meet either Imran or Bushra.
