LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing to take legal action against Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani after he signed a contract with IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), despite having already committed to Islamabad United for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL).
According to information, the PCB has instructed its legal team to file a case against Muzarabani, who was roped in by Islamabad United as a replacement for West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph. His decision to join KKR, replacing Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman (excluded under BCCI directives), is being viewed as a breach of contract.
A PCB source explained: “Since the IPL and PSL are now clashing after being held in the same window since last year, we want to give a clear message to players that once they commit to playing in the PSL, they can’t just go and breach their contract and sign a new one with any franchise in the IPL.”
This is not the first such incident. Last year, South Africa’s Corbin Bosch initially signed with Peshawar Zalmi but later joined Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement. He was subsequently banned from the PSL for one season before apologizing to the PCB.
Similarly, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Australia’s Mitchel Owen played briefly in the PSL before moving to the IPL when the PSL was suspended due to regional tensions. The clash between PSL and IPL schedules has intensified the competition for international players.
