ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed the district administration to facilitate students in the placement of M-tag on motorcycles and not to harass them.
Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar heard the case, wherein state counsel Abdul Rehman appeared for the administration, while DSP (Legal) Sajid Cheema represented the police. During the hearing, Justice Dogar remarked: “When we were students, there used to be relief and concessions for students.”
Addressing the state counsel, he asked why they were putting M-tags? The state counsel said there was a security issue after the courthouse blast in November last year. “A motorcycle was used in this incident, the attacker reached there by bike. Keeping this incident in mind, the aim is to make security foolproof,” he added.
He said the administration made a policy that M-tags should be placed on vehicles and motorcycles at the time of entering Islamabad. Justice Dogar said it was right that public safety should be ensured, “but there are some difficulties in this, and you should give relief to the students and do not harass them”.
The state council said he will inform the chief commissioner about the court’’s instructions. Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the case against the administrative decision to make M-tag mandatory on motorcycles until April 6.
