PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday directed the investigation officer to complete the investigation and submit a report on the bail application of an Afghan national arrested for allegedly demanding extortion from the owner of a restaurant.

The order was issued by Chief Justice SM Attique Shah during the hearing of the bail petition.During the proceedings, the court was informed that the petitioner, Abdul Hafeez, had been arrested on charges of demanding extortion from the owner of a restaurant. However, it was argued that the SIM card allegedly used in the incident had been lost by the accused and might have been used by someone else to make the extortion call.

At this stage, the investigation officer told the court that the restaurant owner had been threatened with dire consequences if he failed to pay the extortion money. The extortionist allegedly claimed to be a member of a banned organisation.

The investigation officer informed the court that after the arrest of the suspect, the complainant had not received any further extortion calls. After hearing the arguments, the court directed the investigation officer to complete the investigation about the accused and submit a report to the court.
