‘Over 3,600 child abuse cases reported in 2025’

Islamabad:In the year 2025, a total number of 3630 child abuse cases have been reported in 81 different newspapers from four provinces including Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit Baltistan (GB).

This alarming statistics were released by Sahil on Monday, in its Cruel Number Report 2025. Gender divide analysis shows that out of the total reported cases of child abuse, 1924 (53 percent) of victims were girls and 1625 (47 percent) were boys and 116 cases were of new born babies.

The data reveals that in one day, more than 9 children have been abused during the year 2025 and the cases of child abuse have increased by 8 percent (266 children) as compared to the year 2024.

The major crime categories of the reported cases are, abduction 1107, sodomy 596, rape 522, missing children 365, attempt of rape 195, attempt of sodomy 141, gang sodomy 130, gang rape 108, murder after sexual abuse 58, and 53 cases of child marriages. The reported age shows that children are most vulnerable to abuse in the age group of 11-15 years, which has more boys than girl’s victims.

The abuser's category of Cruel Numbers 2025 indicates that acquaintances are still the most involved in child sexual abuse. The geographical divide statistics shows that out of the total 3630 reported cases, 73 per cent cases were reported from Punjab, 21 per cent cases from Sindh, 4 per cent cases from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2 per cent cases from Baluchistan, Federal, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit Baltistan (GB).

Of the total of reported cases, 82 per cent of cases were registered with the police that is positive sign of active police. Regarding GBV cases, Sahil’s 2025 GBV data shows that, a total number of 7071 cases of GBV reported from across the country that includes different forms of violence, such as murder, suicide, abduction, rape, honor killing, and torture. This year total of 7071 includes the few cases of transgenders. The data also indicates a 34 per cent rise in the gender-based violence cases.

In the year 2025, 1546 cases of murders, 1345 cases of abduction, 1169 cases of torture, 877 cases of rape, 680 cases of suicide, 449 cases of injuries, 316 cases of harassment, 284 cases of honor killing and 41 cases of acid attack were reported in the past year.
