Dr. Naeem elected Punjab chess body chief

LAHORE: The Chess Association of Punjab (CAP) has announced its newly elected Executive Council for the term 2026–2030, following elections conducted under the supervision of the Sports Board Punjab with full participation of the General Body members. The process was described as transparent and constitutionally compliant, ensuring legitimacy and inclusivity in the leadership selection.

Dr. Naeem Rauf from Lahore has been elected as President. With extensive experience in chess governance and organizational affairs, Dr. Rauf is expected to bring strategic vision and administrative expertise to the role, steering Punjab chess toward greater excellence and inclusivity.

Inamullah Awan from Gujranwala will serve as Senior Vice President, recognized for his dedication to mentoring young chess talent. Four Vice Presidents have also been appointed to represent different regions of Punjab: Professor Tahir Raza Abid (Vehari), Sheikh Abuzar (Bahawalpur), Malik Shahbaz Babbar (Muzaffargarh), and Dr. Ejaz Asghar (Sheikhupura). Each has played a notable role in promoting chess at the grassroots level.

Raja Gauhar Iqbal from Rawalpindi has been re-elected as General Secretary, credited with organizing over 1,700 chess tournaments in recent years. Mr. Ehsan-ul-Haq from Gujrat will serve as Finance Secretary, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters. Other office-bearers include Sheraz Adil (Sheikhupura) as Joint Secretary and Shahid Lodhi (Multan) as Press Secretary.

In a significant step toward gender inclusivity, Mrs. Bushra Saleem has been nominated as Women’s Representative. She will work to encourage female participation in chess across Punjab and represent the association in the General Body of the Chess Federation of Pakistan alongside the President and General Secretary.
