LAHORE: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUIF), has called for an in-camera session of parliament to discuss country’s current situation.

Speaking in Lahore, he said the nation must think about Pakistan and its future, adding that decisions made over the past four to five decades in the name of protecting the Islamic world are now producing consequences.

The maulana said under the present circumstances the Muslim Ummah must collectively determine its future. He said that the issue of Palestine is not only Iran’s issue but that of the entire Muslim Ummah. He added that Pakistan has sentiments of goodwill toward the Arab world and values its friendship with Arab countries.

Fazl said there is a war-like situation on the borders with India and Afghanistan, while China is not showing interest in Pakistan. He said the nation must consider where Pakistan currently stands.

The JUIF chief said a joint session of the Senate and the National Assembly of Pakistan should be convened to discuss Pakistan’s foreign policy regarding India, Iran, and Afghanistan. He urged the government to take political parties and the nation into confidence on foreign policy.

The maulana added that war is never a solution to problems and that peace is desired, saying wherever war occurs it brings destruction. He reiterated that the government should call an in-camera meeting to take political parties and the nation into confidence.
